We got a flow of emails asking us for more information
about that “non fattening bread your body loves” so
today I’m going to answer most of them because many of
you are sooo ready to rush through the door to get it.

First of all grains such as spelt, kamut, oats and rye,
can be found in a sprouted an non-sprouted form. The
good thing about eating sprouted grain breads is that
even though some of these grains contain gluten the
sprouting process breaks it down making it much easier
to digest.

And as we said yesterday sprouting enhances the
nutritional value of the grains… up to a whooping
300 percent. Nice, ah.

Tom is also asking that if multi-grain bread takes
longer to digest and yes, it does. To some people
multi-grains breads are okay but some fiunt it heavy
to their stomach. If you workout a lot and can eat it with no
problem that could be a good option. Try it and see.

In general we recommend breads with one grain and
three maximum if they are sprouted.

Betty is asking if this bread is called sprouted and
yes it is. You will see this specific word on the
label. One of the brands I like and buy is Ezekiel 4:9.
There are more, another for example is Nature’s Path
Manna Bread.

By the way I also like the Ezekiel 4:9 flat bread. I
use it instead of flour tortillas.

This breads are so good that even people who love
white bread (like Betty) usually love them. You
might have to try different types until you find the
one you like best.

Here in Canada it can be found at most supermarkets,
not just the ‘healthy’ ones and sometimes in the
freezer. Cindi, one of our readers says that you can
buy it at Trader Joes. If you don’t have that where you
are simply ask for it at the grocery store.

Grains are a healthy food if consumed in moderation
but sprouting them makes them more nutritious and less
calorie dense.

Some of the nutrients that you find in grains such
as rye and oats include selenium, manganese, magnesium,
calcium, phosphorus, iron,  vitamin A, vitamin B6,
niacin and folate.

They are also rich in fiber.

Many of these nutrients are key for good health,
and many studies suggest that they help protect your
body against atherosclerosis, diabetes, insulin resistance
and obesity.

Also, many of these nutrients are needed for a healthy
function of the nervous system, for mantaiing a relaxed body
and mind - and as such are included in the TOP 10 natural
remedies for anxiety,

There’s just one grain that you need to stay away from
because it depresses the thyroid and that’s millet.
Other than that you may enjoy a small amount of grains
in your diet,  preferably sprouted.

To your total health the natural way,

Monica
