You, like us, know that vegetables and raw foods are
very important to promote and maintain good health,
right.. But, did you know that some vegetables, fruits,
nuts and legumes have a substance that blocks the
absorption of a key mineral, calcium, and that shouldn’t
been eaten by some people.
Calcium is very important to keep those bones looking
good and strong. But not only that.
It plays a crucial role in anxiety. Calcium helps to
keep the nerves steady. It’s a natural tranquilizer.
Calcium also helps with weight loss. Studies have shown that
this mineral is one of your best friends when it comes to
burn body fat. The calcium found in fat cells help
regulate how fat is stored and broken down.
Well, the substance that blocks calcium is called oxalate.
Oxalate can be found in foods such as:
Blackberries
Raspberries
Kiwifruit
Figs
Plums
Tangerines
Spinach
Collards
Okra
Beet greens
Parsley
Nuts and seeds
Soybeans and tofu
Quinoa
Chocolate
Although these foods contain oxalate that doesn’t mean
that you should avoid them altogether (unless you suffer
with kidney stones).
If you’re wondering if there is a way to reduce the quantity
of oxalate in foods, the answer is yes, but not significantly.
Boiling the vegetables (and discarding the water) has shown
to be helpful. The problem is that vital vitamins like B-12
get lost in this process.
So, unless you have problems with kidney stones you
don’t need to worry about it that much. Maybe you just want
to avoid eating lots of these foods all at once or the same
day.
