In a few days December will arrive and for many of
us that means a busy and somewhat stressful time,
specially if we don’t prepare for it and make
a commitment with ourselves to keep things simple.
So, as promised, here are a few simple steps you can take
do to decrease holiday’s stress:
Say NO to situations that you already know can cause
Stress and don’t feel bad about it. For example try to
avoid celebrating the holidays with people that you
know can transform in a split second what’s supposed to
be a happy and fun time into a nerve-racking one.
If you decide to have Christmas dinner (or a party) at
your house, o plan in advance your menu and buy most
of the things you’ll need for that day a week ahead.
Do not over complicate yourself. There are so
many easy, healthy and fast-to-make recipes that
will make you look good and will make your guests
happy… it’s not about of how much time you invest in
your kitchen but instead about having a good time
and enjoying the company of others without feeling
exhausted.
Share responsibilities. Involve your family, kids
and spouse in the Christmas shopping, decorating.
cooking, cleaning and any other things you can
think of and that others can help you with. You don’t
need to be superman or superwoman. Take care of your
body (and sanity) and don’t drive yourself crazy.
Make a list of all tings you want to have done for this
Time of the year and start doing them now. Don’t wait
until the 23rd. to look for that special gift you want to
give to that special friend.
Prioritize. You don’t have to do all things at once.
By setting a sane pace and determining what your
priorities are for each day you avoid worry and the fear
that arises from not having enough time to do all the
things you expect to.
Schedule your holiday events in a way that you can
enjoy each one of them. Avoid overlapping and driving
around like crazy to be able to be in all those places
you’ve been invited to.
Keep things real. Keep yourself living in a real,
natural time and remember to schedule some time to
relax, unwind and enjoy your own company. Treat this
time with respect as if your life depended on it. Well, it
kind of does, ah.
To your health and happiness,
Monica
